This is a great devotional for engaged and married couples or those who are a bit further in their relationship. Its major strength is how it leads couples to focus on God - building the eternal relationship and making Christ the center and foundation of the marriage. However, it's certainly not for new relationships. While the authors emphasize this throughout the text, it's tempting to overlook but not without consequences. I will share one or two reasons to substantiate this.1) When couples read this after making the crucial decision to tie the knot or get engaged, the devotional becomes an invaluable guide in helping them focus on God's love and how to spur one another in love unto deeper spiritual growth.2) On the contrary, new relationships risk healthy spiritual growth when couples start off by reading the devotional together since it likely will lead to strong physical and emotional attachment that could derail the imperative of focusing on Christ Jesus. In other words the two would be getting ahead of themselves. One or both may be tempted to hold off the need to build their personal relationships with Christ apart from each other. Consequently they live under the ruse of making themselves available for the devotional as a way to convince the other person of their 'spirituality'. Sooner or later, reality sets in and the spiritual depravity becomes evident.Will I recommend this book? Yes, of course, I highly recommend it to all Christian couples. I only caution this should be read at the appropriate time. Feeding on the right information at a wrong time could be potentially devastating to the longevity of the precious relationship.
